In 2015, we partnered with House of Illustration, working with Head of Education Emily Jost, to give families from London’s Islington borough the opportunity to create their own picture book.
Run as part of Islington Council’s Word15 festival, the 8-week programme included hands-on workshops to develop visual and written literacy, storytelling techniques and insights into the nuts and bolts of publishing and book creation.
The programme offered local families unique access to those working in creative sectors: children and their parents/carers worked with artist Remy Badru and writer Louie Stowell to create a picture book from scratch. The result is a beautiful, funny and heartwarming book, Captain Crab and Nana Monster. We are so thrilled with the result and the creativity and innovation that each participant brought.
